Sunday Mornings
On Sundays, our spiritual community gathers to remind ourselves of what matters most in life. Our services are founded on thought and experience, woven into a tapestry of music, poetry, and words. They aim to both comfort and challenge.
Our hope is to inspire. Our goal is to strike a spark that illuminates the way to better our own lives and to make a difference in the world.

Children & Youth
In a busy world, regular weekly Sunday School does not work for many families. We wanted to offer families alternative ways to help their young ones to learn, connect, and grow within the framework of our UU values. We came up with this popular plan: the Religious Education Committee (RE) collaborates to create one Sunday Service a month geared to all ages, with the sessions covering a wide range of topics, often more experiential in nature. Recent services enjoyed by members and visitors of all ages were Drumming as Spiritual Communication and Council of Nature (an Earth Celebration).
Activities of Special Appeal to Children
All-ages activities that have special appeal to children and their families are planned throughout the year:
- Contra Dances
- Parent’s Night Out!
- Game Nights
- Halloween Parade Cocoa
- Winter Solstice Celebration – Bring in the Light
- Christmas Eve Service with carols
- Summer Solstice – outdoor bonfire and songs
- Camp Compassion
- Our Whole Lives (OWL)
Music & Song
Music is an important part of every service. Twice a month, cellist Marina Smakhtina accompanies the hymns on piano and enchants us with her cello preludes. During the week, Marina teaches at Mill River High School and plays with the orchestra and other ensembles.
Other Sundays, members and friends of the congregation share their musical talents, playing various stringed instruments. When live music is not available, we supplement with music streamed from other UU congregations’ YouTube channels, and from the wider musical world.

Are you New-to-UU or a UUer-New-to-Rutland? Welcome! Please drop in for a Sunday Service, anytime. Dress at our church is eclectic and informal, from business casual to contemporary social attire. Parking is ample, in the lot beside the building. A handicapped-accessible entrance is at the rear of the church. Greeters at the front door will welcome you and are available to provide introductions and information.
