Get Connected
Each week, and periodically throughout the year, we look for ways to strengthen our connections with each other and build the bonds of community. Opportunities abound!
We get together to learn, share, and have fun. We discuss books, hike, picnic, and enjoy nature. We sing and dance! We set dates for anticipated events far in advance, so everyone has time to schedule and join in.
Sunday Coffee Time
After each Sunday service, we gather in the sanctuary for coffee and conversation. It’s a time to welcome newcomers and check in with friends. On the Sundays when Reverend Barbara is with us, she joins in to mingle and chat.
Caring Circles
Join a small group of Rutland UU members in a year-long Caring Circle. Each group finds its own ways to best connect, interact, and support each another. Every group strives to make their group experience a good time for all.
Circle Dinners
Twice a year, Rutland UU members have the opportunity to sign up to attend an informal potluck dinner, hosted by a member at their home. The friendly gatherings are highly popular: we get to know each other better—and have fun.
Contra Dances
Two or three times a year, we host a community contra dance with live music and a seasoned caller for dancers of all ages and abilities. All dances are taught, partners are plentiful, and snacks are available. Children are welcome!
Coffeehouse Concerts
Concerts are a big deal at Rutland UU! Our sanctuary is renowned for fine acoustics. Each year, we host a series of Coffeehouse Concerts to provide a cozy musical experience that’s open to the public. Tickets are available online starting several weeks in advance through Seven Days Tickets and at the door on concert nights.
Seasonal Activities
Activities are scheduled throughout the year, from hikes and picnics to church potlucks and game nights. Other popular Rutland UU events are: Postcards & Pancakes, Halloween Parade Hot Chocolate, and Parent’s Night Out.
Adult Religious Education
Rev. Barbara offers a class or two annually on such topics as: Transcendentalism, Making Ethical Choices, World Religions, and UU History. Most are monthly, in person; others are by Zoom for Rutland UU and Bennington UU.
Our Whole Lives (OWL)
OWL is sexuality education that fosters informed, responsible, and values-based decisions about sexual health and behavior. Trained members lead curriculum for 4-6 and 7-9 grades. Offered when interest is sufficient.
Camp Compassion
Our Summer Camp meets weekly for seven Saturday mornings. Our Rutland UU curriculum uses the UU Seven Principles as a springboard for learning. Children learn while having fun. Offered when interest is sufficient.
Become a Member
Friends and visitors are always welcome at Rutland UU. And, all may participate in Sunday services, small groups, classes, special events, and financial support of the Church. But what does it mean to become a member?
Volunteer
There are many ways to support Rutland UU. You can give of your time, your expertise, and your resources. Or you might join a committee, help on a short-term project, or host a coffee hour. Please email the office to inquire.
Banned Books Discussion Group
Embrace your Freedom to Read and join any session of our book discussion group. The BBDG meets after Sunday service, 12 noon to 1 pm, October through May, typically the 3rd Sunday of the month. Freewheeling and friendly.
